Introducing my crafty side

And by crafty I do not mean "adept in the use of subtlety and cunning".  I mean, "I like to do crafts".  Here are some of the things I've done recently:

Made new covers for my throw pillows:
Before

After (cuter and cheaper than the $40+ throw pillows I found at the store)

Made a super cute skirt:

$10 worth of materials

= cute new outfit (check out those heels!!  Slightly more expensive than the skirt)

Knit two sweaters:

Sailboats for my Navy friend and her soon to be Navy baby!!

Summer top for me. :)

In which Eva and I almost die: Also titled, A happy day hiking

Today we wanted to do something fun togther, so we decided to go on a hike.  We chose one with a waterfall at the end, since that sounded pretty cool, and since Eva is home alone a lot, we took her along with us andohmygoshwealmostdied!!  Actually, we had a really great time, but Eva proved she is a delicate house dog, and not an energetic outdoors dog.  We didn't quite make it to the waterfall, since the dog decided to give up and crawl under a bush about three-quarters of the way there, at which point we decided we had better head back.  Lets just say the uphill treck in 95° back to the car almost had me crawling under a bush.  It was nice for Phil and I to spend time together, and once we made it home and everyone was sufficently cleaned up and cooled off we finished the day off with dinner and a movie.  Yay for weekends together!

Introducing- the pet

Introducing the other member of the family, Eva (aka, Eva Bear, Stinky Bear, The Hound, and Stupid Dog, depending on the circumstances).  Today, she got a much needed bath and haircut.  She also got a new chew toy.  Baths and chew toys happen rather infrequently.  It was an exciting day.

Goodbyes

While there's a lot of great things about living the Navy life, there's also a lot of stuff that's not so hot.  Like underways, duty days, deployments, and having to say so many goodbyes.   This week I had to say goodbye to my close friend Kaley, another Navy wife who is moving down south.  Although we've know each other less than a year, we've formed a great friendship, bonding over work, our crazy dogs, our often-gone husbands, East Coast roots, Navy life, and so much more.   I'm going to miss her!  Here's hoping the Navy sends us both to the same place once again.

My contrary garden

I have always wanted to grow a garden on my balcony.  A sweet little garden full of fresh herbs that I could use in my cooking.  Something that looks like this:

Instead, my garden looks like this:

Sad, I know.

What I happen to be obsessed with this week

Yes, I'm obsessed with "Lost".  I know there are so many story-lines going on that there's no way they can satisfactorily wrap it up in the six episodes I have left and that I will be left with loads of questions, but that doesn't stop me from wanting to go home, sit on the couch with a bag of chips and watch every single, last, confusing episode!

In which I prove my baking prowess

I made muffins this weekend.  Three times actually.  Saturday morning I decided to whip up some blueberry muffins before yoga.  Somewhere along the way the muffins died.  Not to be deterred,  I made some orange, chocolate muffins on Sunday afternoon.  Those muffins also ended up in the trash.  Feeling like I had lost my baking mojo, I decided to give it one more try on Monday afternoon, with blueberry, raspberry spice muffins.

Can I say, best muffins ever???

To begin with...

About a year ago I started a blog with my sister.  Our goal was to each post one photo every day for a year, giving each other, and others, a glimpse into our lives.  Unfortunately, we both found ourselves busy and out of time to post often, and we didn't make it quite a full year. While I didn't have the time (or inclination sometimes) to post every day, I did enjoy blogging, and was sad to see our photo journal die.  So, this blog.  Where I can journal the life of the man in the combat boots, the hound, and whatever else comes my way.
